Using the Databases
The Waltham High School Library subscribes to several databases that provide access to full-text articles from magazines, newspapers, journals and reference sources. WHS students and staff can access the databases from school and from home; however, from home you will need a Waltham Public Library, Library Card number to log-on the WHS databases.
Don't have a WPL Library Card number? No problem! To sign-up for a WPL Card, go to the circulation desk, near the Main Street entrance of the Waltham Public Library. WPL cards are free; however, in order to obtain a card you must present a photo ID and proof of address (i.e. utility bill, pay check, school record etc). WHS students and staff can also access the Boston Public Library databases through the WHS Library website; however, before you can use the BPL databases you must sign-up for a BPL eCard (follow the instructions below).
BPL eCard Sign-up Instructions
- Go to the Boston Public Library Homepage www.bpl.org
- Click on the drop down menu that says 'Quick Links'
- Select 'eCards' and then click 'Go.'
- Click on the 'Sign-up' link.
- Next, click on the "Get a BPL eCard" button - located below the login boxes.
- Fill in the registration form and click "I Accept." After you click "I Accept" you will receive a barcode number and your selected PIN#. Once you have your BPL eCard #, you can immediately begin searching the BPL databases.
